First Look: Aquaracer 500m Chronograph Full Black

Given that one of the most popular 2010 TAG Heuer releases was the Aquaracer 500m Full Black watch, it comes as no surprise that a year later we now have an Aquaracer 500m Chronograph with the Full Black treatment.

The Full Black formula is pretty straight forward- take the Aquaracer 500m 3-hand watch, swap the stainless steel case for a lightweight titanium case (coated in titanium-carbide) and add bright Green/ Yellow (Lime?) highlights. Even the crystal caseback is “smoked” to give the watch the full stealth treatment- if you can call …

Series Overview: TAG Heuer Grand Carrera

The launch of the Grand Carrera range in 2007 was a crucial one for TAG Heuer. Not only was it the first new series introduced since the S/el way back in 1987, but the new range had the tough task of pushing into a more premium segment of the market and to an older set of buyers, many of whom may have never owned a TAG Heuer before.
The importance of the series meant that it took four years to develop, with lead designer Christoph Behling telling Calibre 11 about the …

Blackout: TAG Heuer Aquaracer Full Black

The arrival of  the new Aquaracer 500m Full Black at Topper Jewelers is the opportunity for the second “Topper’s Corner” on Calibre 11. I love the all-black look of the Full Black and it reminds me of the Sinn U1 Black that I loved and owned for a while. TAG Heuer have really revived the black-on-black look over the last couple of years, with black case versions of the Monaco, Grand Carrera, Formula One and now Aquaracer joining the range.
I had a quick look at one of these in the …

James Bond and TAG Heuer: The Living Daylights

While today you might associated James Bond with Omega watches, here is something you may not know: Before Bond strapped on his Seamaster he wore a TAG Heuer in the 1987 James Bond movie The Living Daylights.

TAG Heuer Monaco 24

The Monaco 24 Concept that was shown at Baselworld last year is being prepared for an Q4 2010 launch. The watch has a titanium PVD case and the Calibre 36 (El Primero) movement.
A quick re-fresh- The Monaco 24 uses the same case as the Monaco LS, with the curved crystal wrapping around the side of the case. The Monaco 24 has bespoke pushers and crown, and swaps the LS-layout for more traditional sub-dials.
The dial has the famous “Gulf” colours also used on the Limited Edition Gulf Monaco released last year.
The …

First Look: TAG Heuer Aquaracer Full Black

TAG Heuer have added a PVD diver to the Aquaracer range, with the release of the Aquaracer 500m Full Black (Ref. WAJ2180).
Not officially part of the Basel collection, the Full Black will be released later this year
The Full Black features a finely brushed titanium case with black PVD coating and bright yellow/ green lume markers, that don’t show up that well on this photo ( in fact, these are pretty ordinary photos taken through glass, so they don’t really do justice to the colours of the watch).
The watch has all …

Restoring a Heuer Monaco PVD

One of the most enjoyable parts of vintage watch collecting is the thrill of the hunt- some of these models are so rare, that its not just a case of paying over the odds to get the watch you want- sometimes, they’re just not available.
Without doubt, the most iconic vintage Heuer is the Heuer Monaco- Steve McQueen’s watch. A crazy square case with its distinctive blue, white and red dial. For many people its the very reason that they become attracted to the Heuer and TAG Heuer brand. And when …

Customised Heuer Autavia PVD

Vintage Heuer collectors are usually difficult to please on the subject of originality, with watches being heavily scrutinised for any sign of non-original parts.
However, as this Autavia shows, there is nothing wrong with a customised Heuer, so long as its not pretending to be an original vintage piece- you know, the stories about an Autavia model that never appeared in any catalogue and was apparently only sold in a three small cities in Argentina during 1977…
This Autavia is the work of Abel Court, who details his creation- and collaborators-  here
What …

Heuer/ TAG Heuer Super Professional Diver

Despite being a late entrant to the diver watch market, Heuer/ TAG Heuer have released some cracking dive watches over the last 30 years. These have tended to fall into two categories- watches that have the style of a dive watch (such as the 1000, 2000 and Aquaracer series) and the more heavy-duty dive watches that are designed for professional use, such as the 1000m diver, the Aquagraph and this watch- the Super Professional.
The Super Professional was one of the last watches designed and made by Heuer before the 1984/5 …

Calibre 360- Update

In an earlier post I mentioned that there had been several versions of the Calibre 360 for sale over the last few months. In May a Swiss seller offered the PVD version for a Buy-it-now price of €13,900.From looking at the auction it looks as though the watch sold, although perhaps below this price.
The watch itself is probably the rarest of all modern TAG Heuers- only 10 were made. Can anyone think of another model that has had such a limited production run? I recall that there was a very …

Customised TAG Heuer Monaco

Bamfords have been customising Rolex watches for a while and are now offering to customise a PVD Monaco for about £5000. If  nothing else they have produced an entertaining website where you can play designer. Here are a few efforts- “Stealth”, “Gulf” and “Rosso”- I’ll stick to the original thanks!
