Formula 1, Lady's Range »
One of the interesting tidbits picked up in Geneva a few weeks ago was that the Lady Formula 1 Steel & Ceramic series is one of TAG Heuer’s best-selling watches, accounting for more than 10% of total watch sales. While most of the articles here at Calibre 11 focus on the Men’s watches, TAG’s share in the Ladies’ segment has increased strongly over the last few years, with its US market share in the + $1000 segment being higher in Women’s watches than it is in Men’s.
One of the main …

TAG Heuer has taken the wraps off the 2012 Formula 1 Series ahead of its Pre-Basel launch event in Geneva. While the existing series ballooned into a dizzying array of models, the new series keeps things focused with three flavours- a Watch, a Chronograph and a Watch with an alarm function. Giving the series variety is the array of materials- including stainless steel, aluminium, ceramic and titanium-carbide- employed to give the different models their own look and feel.
Since its introduction back in 1986, the The Formula 1 has been TAG …

The TAG Heuer Formula 1 has a special place in the brand’s history, being the first watch released following the acquisition of Heuer by Techniques d’Avant Garde (“TAG”) in 1985. While Heuer had spent the late 1970s and early 1980s desperately trying to make money from mechanical watches that were designed for a very different competitive environment, the Formula 1 was a watch of its time. It was the first analogue Heuer/ TAG Heuer series to be quartz-only and to this day there has never been an automatic model.
The inspiration …

A few weeks ahead of its official launch, we can bring you today the first preview photos of the 2012 TAG Heuer Formula 1 Series. The new model replaces the current F1 series which has been a key part of the TAG Heuer range since it was relaunched in 2004.
As you can see below, the The 2012 model is an evolution of the current series, but with a more mature, elegant design and featuring upgraded finishing and details.
The model shown here is the 42mm Chronograph, which is laid out in …

The Formula 1 series gets a new look for 2011- four new designs with three different quartz movements.
The Formula 1 watch was the first watch developed by TAG Heuer after the change of ownership in 1985. Most of the early TH range was made up of Heuer-developed watches with the new logo, but the Formula 1 arrived in 1986 followed by the S/el in 1987 as the paths between the old Heuer and the new TAG Heuer began to diverge.
The Formula 1 was a watch for the ages- new, low-cost …

A couple of weeks ago Calibre 11 showed you a preview from Geneva of several 2011 Formula 1 series models. In addition to those watches, at least one model was kept back- a Gulf-striped Grand Date Formula 1.
This is the first time that the Gulf stripes have been used by TH on a watch other than the Monaco, which makes sense given that the Gulf Monaco has been well and truly covered.
Like the rest of the Grand Date range, the Formula 1 Gulf uses the oversized 44mm case and the …

While the headline of TAG Heuer’s pre-Basel releases was the Carrera Mikrograph and the Carrera MP4-12C, there was also plenty of news regarding other watches planned for 2011. In fact, the clear message that I was left with was that there will be more new models launched this year that perhaps ever before. What we’ve seen so far is only the tip of the iceberg for 2011.
Yes, there will be a new concept watch shown at Basel in March- no hints on what that might be yet- but there is …
Baselworld 2010, Formula 1, Link »
Two more watches that are new for Baselworld 2010 are the TAG Heuer Link Advanced GMT and the Lady F1.
I’ve never been a big fan of the Link series- OK, its more elegant than some of the more overtly sporting TAG Heuer watches, but it’s never been one to set the heart racing.
This GMT version however is quite clever. The watch has a magnetic bezel system, and as you rotate the bezel the disc with the city names also rotates.
The watch uses the Calibre 7 movement (ETA 2893) and features …

A first for Calibre 11- some news of a new model in the TAG Heuer ladies range.
Ahead of Basel TAG Heuer have released information about two new models in the F1 Lady series.- both of which have a ceramic finish and are reminiscent of the Chanel J12 series that has been so successful over the last few years.
The use of ceramic appears limited to the bracelet and around the bezel. While using ceramic “bricks” in the bracelet seems purely for styling, it does make sense to look at the use …

My first watch of 2010 arrived this week and its something a little different from the usual 1970s Heuer Chronographs- a 1990 TAG Heuer F1 quartz Chronograph (ref. CA 1211-RO). I’m planning a more detailed look at the TAG Heuer F1 series shortly, so today only a brief overview of this watch.
This is the second series F1 watch, and the first to come with a chronograph function, via an ETA 251.262 quartz movement. While its tempting to think of the F1 as TAG’s “Swatch”, this was no cut-price special- the …
