Last week I posted a review of the Monaco V4 series- The Platinum watch from 2009 and the “New Generation” Rose Gold model announced last year. Now there is a third member of the family: The Monaco V4 Titanium.
The watch is a Chemistry student’s dream, combining Ruthenium, Ceramic and Titanium. The Ceramic is not visible in these shots, but runs along the side of the watch to help break up the mass of the case, while the Ruthenium is the black coating on the ridged “dial” of the watch, which …

With the benefit of hindsight, we can now say that the Monaco V4 Concept of 2004 marked a turning point for TAG Heuer. Yes, TH had shown some innovative Concept watches before (The Micrograph of 2002 and the Monaco 69 in 2003), but the audacious V4 was the first sign that the “new” TAG Heuer was serious about re-establishing its credentials as a manufacturer and designer of advanced mechanical movements.
Since 2004 TAG has shown a brace of innovative movements- the Calibre 360, the Pendulum, the Mikrograph and Mikrotimer- but it …

It’s hard to remember a time when there has been so much focus on the movement that sits inside a watch- where it comes from, who designed it and who made it. It may sound strange to say that there was little focus on movements until around 2000- after all, they are not only an integral part of the watch, but are the actual components that deliver the primary function of a watch- keeping time.
I suspect that a big part of the reason was that by the 1990s no-one, putting …

This year, TAG Heuer is nominated in three categories: Men’s Watches (TAG Heuer 300 SLR) Design and Concept watches (TAG Heuer Monaco V4) and Sport Watches (TAG Heuer Monaco 24).
So far, so good you might think- but take a look at the Monaco V4 that is nominated. Here, for the first time is the second version of the Monaco V4- a Rose Gold edition.
The new V4 (Ref. …

The TAG Heuer Monaco V4 has featured a few times on Calibre 11- its a real landmark watch for TAG, both in terms of the technology driving the movement and in terms of the price that the watch will be sold for.
At the Heuer Collectors summit in 2008, a group of us was able to hold the advanced prototype- its an intriguing design watching as the Tungsten weight slides up and down to power the four barrels.
The case design in similar to that of the new TAG Heuer Monaco LS- …

In 2006 TAG Heuer released four limited edition Carrera 360 models- White Gold, Rose Gold, Stainless steel and black PVD. The watches marked a turning point for TAG in the development of its own in house movements. Although based on an ETA movement, TAG developed a complex chronograph module that achieves 360,000 vibrations per hour, 10 times of the El Primero movement and allowing timing to 1/100 of a second. So a real landmark watch, and at a real landmark price for TAG- between $12,000 and $25,000 depending on the …
