Crystal Ball- Update 1

Since the original post on 18 September, there have been two examples of the predicted “big movers” that have sold on eBay. Given that these came up so soon after the initial post, I thought it would be worth tracking to see whether there were any signs of values heading north.
1) Heuer Montreal
Sold for USD1,525- 25 Bids
- The white-dial Montreal is the rarest of the lot, so on the face of it this is a pretty disappointing price. However, look a little closer and note that the hands are not correct and that the case had been polished- two sure ways to reduce your selling price
- The bracelet looks like it comes from a 5100-series/ Valjoux Montreal and is not correct for the Cal. 12 version of the Montreal
- Its also worth noting that the seller of this watch always goes for “Private Auctions”-I always get a bit nervous about these (no insinuations about this seller- they are a well-known vendor on eBay) and wonder if that also reduced the final price
- Verdict: A poor price for an average- below average example of a rare watch
2) TAG Heuer 5100
- Sold for STG780 (approx. USD1,250)
- 20 Bids
- I thought that this was a pretty good example of the TAG version of the 5100, although I note that some in the forum world thought that this may have been originally a PVD-coated model that had been stripped back
- The watch even had “Rockstar” provenance, with the vendor claiming that it belonged to someone from a “well-known band” (unnamed)
- The vendors’ photos may not have helped things- would have been useful to see the stamping on the back of the case. The reference should be 510.500-12 (the -12 indicating that its the TAG Heuer version of the watch rather than the Heuer version)
- Likewise the description seemed a little vague- this is not the military version of the watch (there wasn’t one).
- Verdict: An average price for an above-average example
So, in summary, there is nothing going on here to support my contention on these being big price movers, with neither price being all that exciting for the sellers..lets see what happens as more examples of both watches come onto the market.

Saw that Montreal and came to the same conclusion as you, i thought it badly overpolished, not just a nice easy buff. Crisp edges is everything on these wacthes. Certainly no movement up on Silverstones as yet, but it’s bound to come imo…
DC, can provide photos of the new old stock white dialled Montreal shown in my book..Cheers Arno
Low priece for a bad white Montreal.
Quality pays…
Cheers
Pierluigi
Agree Pierluigi- I guess that there are so few white Montreal’s around that its hard to get a “normal” price.
