Return of the Silverstone- TAG Heuer Silverstone Re-edition Coming

car_photo_301600_7 Great news: The Heuer Silverstone is coming back!

Expect to see a re-edition version of the Heuer Silverstone unveiled at the 2010 Basel show in April as part of the celebrations for Heuer’s 150th anniversary:

  • the watch is likely to use the same “Calibre 11″ movement as the 40th anniversary Monaco recently released
  • Which version of the Silverstone will this re-edition be based on? While the Lemania Silverstone is an iconic design in its own right (see this earlier post: http://www.calibre11.com/2009/08/22/the-other-silverstone/), its the Calibre 12 Silverstone that people most associate with the Silverstone name
  • Expect to see the watch available in two dial colours- Blue and Red (is the world ready again for star-burst fume?)
  • “Heuer” on the dial or “TAG Heuer”? Probably depends on whether the watch is back as part of the model line-up full time, or whether this is just an anniversary limited edition

The Silverstone is one of my favourite Heuers, so I hope TAG gets this one right- to me the crucial word will be simplicity. Quite a few of the new TAG’s have highly complex dials (think the Monaco LS and the Grand Carrera Caliper watches)- one of the hallmarks of the Silverstone was its clean design, so lets hope this carries over to the re-edition.

Of course, there is also the possibility (probability?) that the famous Silverstone circuit- will also be back for 2010, despite having its farewell Grand Prix earlier this year. So, lets see what TAG Heuer come up with- and expect the re-edition to increase interest in the original vintage Silverstone. There are lots of Mint examples out there…lets see what happens to prices over the next 6 -12 months.

Finally, well done Fabrizio, who correctly guessed the new re-edition model.
