First Look: 2017 TAG Heuer Manchester United Carrera & Formula 1

TAG Heuer today has launched two new 2017 models to mark its partnership with Manchester United F.C. The tie-up was first announced in July 2016, with TAG Heuer appointed as the club’s Official Timekeeper and Global Partner- and now we have the watches to complement the deal.

While TAG Heuer has announced a range of partnership with various Football (or Soccer depending on your view of the world) players, teams and leagues, the link with Manchester United sits as one of TAG Heuer’s première global partnerships alongside Red Bull Racing.

There are two models in the range- a Carrera Heuer-01 and a Formula 1 Chronograph.

The Carrera Heuer-01 is based on the all-steel 45mm Heuer-01 (Ref. CAR2A1W) with ceramic bezel, but this time with a black titanium carbide coating. The other changes from the standard model are:

  • Red lume hour and minute hands
  • Red TAG Heuer shield on the ceramic bezel
  • Red numerals on the inner minuterie scale
  • Red lume hour markers
  • Steel hands on the 12 and 6 o’clock registers instead of red
  • Red devil logo covering the 9 o’clock register

The watch also features a newly design rubber and leather strap based on the design of the Carrera Heuer-02t strap, but with bright red stitching.

There’s the option of either the black strap with red stitching (above), or this sensational bright red strap with black stitching

The smoked sapphire caseback also features the Manchester United “Red Devil” logo. Behind the logo is TAG Heuer’s Calibre Heuer-01 chronograph movement.

The second model is based on the 43mm Formula 1, this time with its steel case coated with titanium carbide to give the case a sporty, stealthy look- that is until you get to the bright red strap, which we’ll cover shortly.

The dial features a bright Red 12 numeral and minuterie scale, sweeping seconds and chronograph hands. Finishing off the look is the Manchester United club shield at the 6 o’clock register.

And now back to the strap- in this case a rubber strap that is based on the design of the ‘Legends” bracelet, a.k.a. the bracelet from the TAG Heuer Link series

The watch features a solid steel caseback with the Manchester United Crest.

Price and Availability- TAG Heuer Manchester United Editions

No word yet on the final pricing for the Manchester United pair, but we’ll update the article as more information comes to hand.

The Carrera Heuer-01 is limited to 1000 watches, each numbered, while the Formula 1 is tagged as a “Special Edition” and therefore will be available more widely. Despite the global supporter base, it appears that at this stage the watches will only be sold in the UK- at least, to date TAG Heuer has only confirmed UK availability. We’d expect that the 1000 Carrera Heuer-01s to sell quickly in the UK, but with wider availability for the Formula 1 Special Edition- again, we’ll update the post as details are confirmed.

And while you might think that these watches will only appeal to Manchester United fans-and we suspect you’re right- given that there are apparently 659 million supporters globally, we don’t think that will be a concern for TAG Heuer.

I don’t mind the red lume, but the devil figure is awful. Not TAG’s fault, that’s their logo… but still.

    • I probably would have switched the logos around- Red Devil for the Formula 1 and Man Utd Shield for the Carrera

I have a tag acquaracer, great time piece. Being a united supporter all my life and resisted the Bulova MUFC edition. This watch is nice, great for any fan BUT it is disappointing that Tag used a Formula 1 model

Wow! I like the heuer01. Got the first colorway that they released last yr but this one is something els. Wondering if that rubber strap with red stitching is a mix of real croc skin and rubber underneath? Ohh man just bought the cal36 flyback racing edition but still waiting for it coz its a special order.

I made my reservation in one of the AD here in oz. its really limited quantity. Theres 3 version of this. Black red, grey red, black with pure red strap.

      • Congrats- the Carrera? Please drop by forums.calibre11.com and show us some photos when it arrives!

Ive got the two hublot red devil limited watches and ive got to say that the carrera watch looks well smart. Ill be adding it to the collection. I wasn’t to impressed with the bulova’s so didnt bother. The formula 1 one looks smart as well, but im a sucker for automatic. Ill probably go for the red strap otherwise it is kinda similar to the hublot skeleton red devil one. Anyone know just how limited the carrera is?
