With TAG Heuer’s Calibre 1887 production capacity being migrated across to the renamed and revised version of that movement- the Calibre Heuer-01- TAG Heuer is replacing the range of existing Calibre 1887 Carreras with alternative movements, including this new model- the Carrera Calibre 16 43mm Day-Date.
The newest Carrera effectively replaces the Carrera 1887 43mm model, a mainstay of the range since its introduction in 2013 as the second watch to use the 1887 Calibre.
While the most obvious change is the movement swap, there are also a number of detailed changes for the new watches, including:
- Newly designed hands
- Redesigned 9 o’clock sub-dial
- Date window moves from 6 o’clock to 3 o’clock
- Date function replaced by Day-Date function
- Redesigned, squarer hour numerals
While the existing 1887 model offered three dial options, the 2016 range consolidates this down to a White or Black option, with the Anthracite dial being discontinued.

Movement- Calibre 16
As with the majority of TAG Heuer’s Calibre 16 range, the new 2016 models use the Sellita SW500 movement, rather than the almost-identical ETA 7750. The Day-Date models offer a sapphire case back and water resistance to 100m.
Prices and Availability- Carrera Calibre 16 43mm CV2A1AB & CV2A1AC
The 2016 TAG Heuer Carrera Calibre 16 43mm is priced at CHF 4,500 (Swiss Francs), which is a small premium to the other Calibre 16 Carreras, but less than the previous 1887 model.
