TAG Heuer Formula 1 Cristiano Ronaldo CR7 Limited Edition

Following the announcement of Cristiano Ronaldo joining the TAG Heuer team of ambassadors, we now have the first Ronaldo “CR7” Limited Edition watch launched at Baselworld 2015.

Based on the Formula 1 Chronograph, the CR7 has a black and green colour scheme to evoke the green of the football pitch.

CAZ1113.FC8189 - PACKSHOT - CR7 SPECIAL EDITION - Version 2This is the first time we’ve seen this colour combination since the run of limited edition watches from 2008-2012 to mark the annual Singapore Grand Prix.

CAZ1113.FC8189_TAG HEUER FORMULA 1 MOOD PACKSHOT CR7 LIMITED EDITION - Version 2Putting aside the colour scheme, the main design flourish of the CR7 is the chequered-patterned dial, which gives the watch a distinct feel from the other Formula 1 models.

This contrasts with the three registers, which have a circular pattern- the 3 o’clock register dominated by the large “CR7” text.

OLYMPUS DIGITAL CAMERAThe watch case has a 42mm steel case coated in titanium carbide- the same material as the bezel.

The watch only comes on a Black/ Green NATO, which looks great and complements the watch well- let’s face it, you’ll either like the colour scheme or you won’t, but for those who do, the NATO is a perfect match for the watch.

Overall the design is a little like the man himself- I suspect people will have a polarised view of the watch…you’ll either like it or you won’t.

TAGHeuer_FORMULA1_CR7_CAZ1113.FC8189_DosThe CR7 Chronograph has the same Ronda 5040D movement as used across the Formula 1 quartz chronograph range, hidden behind a steel caseback again carrying the CR7 logo.

Tad muted for a footballer? Bit OTT for me – prefer the simple understated green highlights and elegance of the Singapore GP issues.

I have to say this TAG Basel lineup is troubling. We can genuinely be worried about the direction this brand is heading to when we see models like this CR7 or the David Guetta Edition. Everything looks cheap, almost “Diesel-inspired”, better suited for kids or teenagers then for mature watch lovers…
Extremely disappointed, to say the least.

The reason you don’t like it, its because they don’t want you to like it. You have hit the nail on the head, Its a teenage watch because they want teenagers to own it.

Certainly it’s made for a different market, which I don’t mind so long as it’s in addition to the existing range

      • JFL

Considering the difference in price points, I am not sure teenagers will run in droves to their favorite Watch store to buy a TAG (instead of, say, a Diesel, a Fossil, a Festina, or whatever brands is fashionable nowadays in this market).

Another disappointment! I too am really worried about the way they are going!

I LOVE this piece. Yes, it looks young, but it is tasteful and fun.
On a lower note I do not like at all the David Gyetta edition, nor the Csrs Delevigne’s.
Byt this F1 with green accents will be a hit among younger customers. It is a shame there will only be 3000 pieces !

I love this watch and would be great to train with. I would prefer a rotating bezel with minutes on it too

A tachymetre measures speed. It seems unnecessary on a watch fora football player.
