Up Close with the TAG Heuer Carrera Lady

The 2017 Carrera Lady series takes the modular philosophy of the men’s Carrera Heuer-01 and adapts this to a 36mm ladies collection. The result is a much more modern collection, and one that had its unique identity- this doesn’t have the look of a men’s Carrera that’s simply been shrunk and feminised with diamonds.

There’s also a range of new case and strap materials, including denim, alligator, rose gold and more.

The Carrera joins the new Link Lady as part of the revamped women’s collection at TAG Heuer.

The key to the new collection is the modular case construction. This means that rather than having a case that is punched from a block of steel, the case is instead made up of nine different pieces (case back, case middle, bezel, lugs and strap end-pieces). As demonstrated with the Carrera Heuer-01, this means that it’s easier- and more economical- to change the look and feel of the watch by changing over only a few parts.

The 36mm case is nicely sized (in fact, the same size as the original men’s 1963 Carrera!) with a clear, easy-to-read dial and a large fixed bezel.

All models have a solid polished steel caseback, which makes sense given that- at least for the moment- all models use a 3-hand quartz movement.

Carrera Lady Range

We’d expect the Carrera Lady range to expand over time, but to kick things off, we have five launch models.

WBG1310- Blue Dial/ Denim Strap

The first of the watches has a sunburst blue dial, which has a beautiful vivid,  metallic colour.

As well as the combination rubber/ denim strap shown above, there is also the option of a stainless steel H-Link bracelet.

WBG1311- Black Dial/ Rose Gold

The second model offers a simple black opaline dial, with the hands, hour markers and date window plated in 5N Rose Gold. The brown calf-skin strap shown above comes as standard.

WBG1312- White Mother of Pearl/ Diamonds

Next we have a white mother-of-pearl dial, decorated with 13 VS Diamonds, of 1.40mm (0.13ct). The standard strap here is a white alligator strap, which sits on top of a rubber base.

WBG1313- Black Dial/ Black Titanium Carbide Case

Bringing a sporty look to the range, reference WBG1313 has a black sunburst dial and a steel case coated in black titanium carbide. The dial decoration- hands, TAG Heuer logo, date window and hour indices- are all plated in black gold, with black lume completing the look.

The strap is a combination of rubber and black calfskin.

WBG1351- Gold Gold/ Black Dial

And rounding out the collection is this watch, with a standard black dial with 5N Rose Gold-plated decoration. What sets it apart is the Rose Gold crown, bezel and lugs- the case middle itself remains stainless steel.
